Having fresh herbs on hand is a great way to enhance your recipes and experiment with flavor combinations. Growing your own indoor herbs is not only an easy DIY project, but an economical way to keep fresh herbs available year round.

Having an indoor herb garden is perfect for you if you have limited outdoor space, or live in an apartment or condo. Plus, herbs emit a wonderful fragrance which will entice you use them in your cooking! Additionally, depending on how you choose to grow and display your indoor herbs, they can act as a decor element in your home.

Here are some different DIY indoor herb garden ideas to consider:

Design a One-Pot Herb Garden
If your kitchen space for growing herbs is limited, consider growing all your herbs in one large container rather than separate pots for each herb. You can design an aesthetically pleasing herb garden in one pot by planting small groupings of 3 or 4 different herbs in the soil of your large container, making sure to space them out so that the roots will have room to grow. Choose the herbs that you’ll use the most and create a unique herb garden in a minimalistic container, like this one. I like to use organic, non-GMO seeds like these, which have 10 varieties of herbs from which to choose.

Hang Herb Planters Above Your Kitchen Sink
Rather than using your counter space or window sill to house your DIY herb garden, consider using hanging pots. If you have a kitchen window over your sink, this is a great option, since the herbs will be exposed to direct sunlight. Plus, there are some great options for hanging planters, like this one. Plus, tiered hanging pots can serve as an interesting design element in your kitchen.

Create a Small Terrarium of Herb Plants
Terrariums are such a delightful design element, whether using plants or herbs. Have fun creating a unique herb garden within a beautiful terrarium like this one. Rosemary, oregano, basil, and mint would be gorgeous in a terrarium. Here are some organic non-GMO seeds that you might consider.

Grow Herbs in Mason Jars
If you have space for individual containers, consider growing your herbs in mason jars. Since the jars are made of glass, you can track the growth of your herbs. Using wide-mouth jars, like these, are preferable, so the herbs have room to grow and flourish. Each herb gets its own jar, which should be in front of a window that gets sunlight. Using colorful mason jars also adds a vibrant touch to your herb garden, like this all-in-one, self-watering kit complete with organic seeds.

These are just a few ideas to help you decide on a DIY herb garden. Have fun with your design choice and most of all, have fun using your fresh herbs in your cooking!

Here are a few of my favorite recipes using fresh herbs:
Pan Seared Salmon with with Creamy Greek Yogurt Lemon Dill Sauce
Roasted Heirloom Tomato Basil Mozzarella Caprese Salad
Grilled Corn on the Cob with Herb Butter
Creamy Avocado and Cilantro Dip

Get Paid To Shop With The Ibotta App. What? Don’t you just cringe at titles like that? Me, too. But I wouldn’t have used it if it weren’t true. No joke, the Ibotta app will actually deposit money in to your Paypal or Venmo account with minimal effort on your part. Um, hello?! Sign me up!

Ibotta is available for iOS and Android devices.

Here’s some backstory: I’ve never been one to go grocery shopping with a fistful of coupons that I laboriously cut out of the Sunday newspaper circulars ( ← a  true back-in-the-day thing). Oh, sure, if there were a few items that I used on a consistent basis, I would messily rip them out of the circular and stuff them in my handbag for future use, only to forget that they were there once I had already checked out and left the store. Sigh. Totally not cut out for paper couponing. It’s not that I’m opposed to saving money, it’s just that cutting coupons seemed like too much work for my already frazzled schedule.

So. Here we are in the 21st century where we have mobile apps that do most of the work for us. After seeing the Ibotta app all over the place a few years ago, I reluctantly downloaded it on to my iPhone, thinking it would just sit there and be another couponing situation that I didn’t use or forgot about until it was too late. Well, this was so not the case! The first time I used it and saw a few dollars ka-ching into my Ibotta account, I was hooked; possibly even addicted. I love, love, love this app. Seriously. I can actually redeem purchase coupons and get cash back after I’ve left the building. Seriously, at home. Hours later. Because that’s just how I roll. #unorganized

However, I would highly suggest checking out the app for the store(s) you’re about to go into before you cross the threshold to see if there are any specials that you want to take advantage of while you’re shopping. I’ve learned to do this (!)  so I can save even more and watch my cash back amount grow. Hey, I’m teachable…by an app, no less. So don’t think you’ll never use this app, or that it’s too complicated. And if you’re way more organized than I am (I mean, seriously, you totally are) then download this app right now and see what you’ve been missing. I’d love it if you used this link to download it. It’s an affiliate link and I’m totally psyched for you to try it and then share it with your friends, too! Did I mention that you can get cash rewards for sharing this awesome app? #love

I appreciate that I can get cash back for my adult beverage purchases: wine for me and beer for the hubs. #winwin Also, we use a lot of almond and coconut milk along with frozen fruit for our daily protein smoothies, so the Ibotta app saves us money on those items.

And can we talk paper goods? Everybody uses toilet paper (ahem) and we go through our fair share of tissues in the winter-time, so it’s great to see those savings pop up in the app.

There are so many grocery items available, and they change weekly so that you’re sure to find items that you use.

But Ibotta is not just limited to grocery stores. There are actually over 300 retailers that Ibotta works with, including online stores, clothing stores, restaurants, movie theaters, home improvement centers, pet stores, and pharmacies nationwide. Places like Amazon, Target, Best Buy, Whole Foods, Walmart, Publix and many more are included.

So how does it work? There are three ways you can redeem some bucks with Ibotta.

  • Save your receipts and use them to receive your cash backs (this is how I manage to wait until I get back home to do this…but better if you’re not like me, and you can actually plan ahead!)
  • Link your store loyalty cards within the app. This is a no-brainer. So simple.
  • Mobile in-app purchases. If you shop from your device, you’re golden. Easiest and fastest way to use the app.

I hope you’ll give Ibotta a try. I think you’ll love it. Now let’s go earn some cash!

Bring a touch of spring to your kitchen accessories and decor with this practical list of tableware, gadgets and small appliances.

I start thinking about salads when heading into the spring season. A few years ago I upgraded my salad spinner to this large capacity stainless steel spinner. I love it! It’s super roomy, works like a charm and the stainless steel bowl can be used separately, making it a multi-function item in my kitchen. If you make a lot of salads, consider this spinner.

Here’s a gorgeous Acacia wood 3 piece salad bowl and server set. While your salad would display beautifully in this bowl, don’t limit its use to just greens. It would make a perfect vessel for popcorn, bread, fruit, or even just a decorative display piece when not in use. Also makes a great gift!

These Mason jar measuring cups and spoons are adorable! The sky blue color signals that winter is over and spring is here. Perfect for measuring dry or liquid ingredients. The material is ceramic and they are dishwasher safe.

I love my pieces from Le Creuset and my casserole dish is no exception. The stoneware cooks evenly and cleanup is a breeze thanks to the nonstick glazed interiors. I love that this one comes with a lid – perfect for storing leftovers (like my Bacon Brussels Sprouts Au Gratin) in the fridge and reheating the next day. If this lovely palm green isn’t your color, they have a wide range of other colors available from which to choose.

You can’t talk about springtime without thinking of eggs and all those Easter egg hunts, right? What in the world do you do with all those leftover hardboiled eggs? Slice ’em and dice ’em! (And make some tasty egg salad, or zesty potato salad!) This particular egg slicer offers 3 different slicing styles. Did you know you can also use egg slicers to slice mushrooms and strawberries?

I love this bright yellow earthenware mixing bowl. It’s chip-resistant and has a glossy finish. Comes in an assortment of sizes. Use it for mixing up yummy treats or as a serving bowl. (Serve up some Garlic Mashed Potatoes in it, or some Bourbon Pecan Mashed Sweet Potatoes. Yum!) Microwave and dishwasher safe. Made in Portugal.

How cute are these pink stainless steel and silicone whisks? Choose the right whisk for the job with this handy set of 3. If pink isn’t your thing, they come in a variety of other colors, too.

If you handle a lot of fish, garlic or onions, you might consider this handy stainless steel bar to rub away the odors. Just rub it between your hands like a bar of soap and it will help remove stubborn food odors from your hands.

These beautiful pastel hand-painted salad plates just say springtime to me. These would look stunning on solid color pastel plates or on just a solid white plate. There’s an entire line of dishes that compliment these plates, but I think they are lovely on their own, too.

This embroidered table runner has an elegant understated floral and cutwork design which is perfect for a springtime tablescape.

If you don’t already have a stand mixer, consider this best seller in this lovely Lavender Cream color. Swoon! Lots of other colors to choose from if lavender isn’t your thing. You will love having a stand mixer in your kitchen. From dough, to batters, to whipped mashed potatoes, you will use it all. the. time!
